Dr. Joy Varghese is the Lead Coordinator of Neuroprocedures and Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.

Upon earning his Master of Chirurgiae (MCh) in Neurosurgery from Mumbai University and attaining Fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology (FINR) from Zurich University, Dr. Varghese has dedicated over 20 years to the fields of endovascular, microvascular, and skull base neurosurgeries. He also oversees the stroke program at Apollo Speciality Hospital, OMR, Chennai.

Dr. Varghese is known for his expertise in performing advanced neurosurgical techniques. His passion for these neuro specialities is evident in his extensive global training and experience

Dr. Varghese’s expertise extends beyond neuro specialities. He is sought after for his dexterity in headache management, sciatica and stroke treatments, cerebrospinal fluid shunt, and foot drop. He has also authored numerous scholarly articles in well-known journals worldwide.

Dr. Joy Varghese began his pursuit of a medical career in 1994 at the Government Medical College, Thrissur.
MS
Continuing his academic journey, he completed his MS in General Surgery at Manipal Academy of Higher Education in 2001.
MCh
In 2005, He advanced his expertise by earning a Master of Chirurgiae (MCh) in Neurosurgery from the University of Mumbai.

  • Recipient of the Award for Best Research Paper in recognition of his work related to Myelopathy due to Cervical Spondylosisin August 2005.
  • Treatment for the first documented instance in India of direct carotid cavernous fistulas on both sides
  • Reversal of acute stroke in India’s youngest patient using mechanical means in 2013.
  • Training for neuro interventionalists in Mechanical Thrombectomy in Shanghai, China in 2016.
